The honest position
A caravan remains the cheapest way to buy a fixed bed, a full washroom and a proper lounge. Unhitched, you keep an ordinary car for the fortnight. The costs sit elsewhere: towing capability, storage, and the skill and confidence to reverse a twin-axle onto a sloping pitch in wind. Modern stabilisers and motor movers have removed much of the difficulty, not all of it.
Best suited to: families, longer static stays, buyers who want space for the money.
